The Losing Georgia Project is proud to display research material for users in a way that is visually easy to understand. These interactive tools utilize Google Earth and Google Maps to demonstrate the rich history of Douglas County on a larger scale.
Interactive Tour with Google Earth
The Losing Georgia: Interactive Tour is a virtual documentation of all that is Douglas County, GA. Recipient of the Best of Google Earth Community in December 2006, the Interactive Tour is the result of two years of documenting over 160 new real estate developments, locating over 125 historical places, and defining government public goods and services. Included in this tour is the awarded Cemeteries of Douglas County, GA − a recipient of the Best of Google Earth Community April 2007.
Cemeteries of Douglas County, Georgia
In April 2007 the Cemeteries of Douglas County, Georgia was awarded the Best of Google Earth Community. With the support of the Douglas County Cemetery and Preservation Commission, a total of 111 cemeteries have been located by GPS and positively identified. This is the first ever documented digital map of cemeteries for any county in the State of Georgia.
Historic Resources of Douglas County, Georgia
Explore the vast amount of historical structures that dominate Douglas County through this in depth tour of over 700 placemarks. For the first time a Georgia Historic Resource Survey has been applied to Google Earth for viewing via a digital mean that goes beyond the paper report. In September 2007 the tour was awarded the Best of Google Earth Community and can be seen in under the Geographic Web layer.
