R.I.P. Losing Georgia
After much thought and deliberation over the future of the Losing Georgia Project, I have come to the conclusion that the Project will no longer continue as of today, December 31, 2007. It has been an experience of a lifetime to take an original idea from scratch and develop it into a blossoming persona that has grown by leaps and bounds.
Over the course of the two plus years I have gained a respectable knowledge of the history and coherency that is my home, Douglas County, Georgia. Although not all have agreed with my personal views on development and growth, it was refreshing to know that there were many people out there that shared the same ideals in some fashion or another.
Out of this experience came three award winning Google Earth tours, several newspaper publications and awareness for the community. Much of the work for Losing Georgia was on my own time, done voluntarily, and at my own expense. I wish to continue on with the Project, however I can no longer financially nor have the passion to do so considering the current conditions that I have to face.
With a warm heart, I thank those profusely for the support provided in donations, e-mails, and comments. I have considered of continuing on with posting the local government meetings agendas and possibly the news snippets. If there is a demand for this service, then I will try my best to keep up with the information, however priorities now reside elsewhere with project Saving Hunter.
Those who want to keep apprised of my work can visit my blog, Trade Relic, or my photography website, Ashford Photography.
Thank you to all.
Sincerely,
Andrew A. Powell

Andrew,
Your hard work does not go without appreciation. As a long time (ten year) resident of Douglas County, I appreciate your time and efforts with the LosingGeorgia.com project and the awesome facts you brought about in the process.
I haven’t always agreed with your arguments; but who agrees 100% with anyone’s opinions or ideas. But there’s a need for this valuable resource. LosingGeorgia.com needs to be saved and continue on. While supporters of this project may not be able to revive your personal enthusiasm, we can pick up the financial piece. Let me know what needs to happen to have this site continue.
Thank you for your work!

I honestly don’t know if Losing Georgia will come back, I have some hope it will but for the moment its time for me to move on. I’m sure you can understand. There’s a time for everything…
People can still contribute stories, but there would be a delay in the posting. The website will be up for the time being. I would like Losing Georgia to grow and continue on, but its been over two years on my own for a project that should have ended in the first year.
Maybe things will change in the coming months, until then the Project on my behalf is closed.
January 4th, 2008 at 3:08 pmI’ve enjoyed virtually each and every post on LG through 2 years and commend you for a very professional website. As a viewer of LG, I appreciate all of your hard work and wish you the best. I believe you have truly done a service to the D’ville community.

Thanks again and best wishes in the New Year.
January 7th, 2008 at 9:11 amAfter some thought and a full inbox, Losing Georgia may come back after all but not in its current form. I am considering some new options to keep the project alive. Hope to have a post on it soon…
Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
January 8th, 2008 at 9:25 ami just found your website today. i was on google earth and there was a marker on the maps about cherokee indian princess anneewakkee. i never knew there was such a thing. i hate how this county is growing. there is no plan to the madness. they just knock down tree and lay concrete or asphalt. it is all about money. the more oyu build the more money comes in true, but then people come in and need more services which, need more money which, requires more building which, requires more knocking down of tree and so on , and so on. it will never end. this county has gotten too big for its pants and it is feeding on its self right now.
please keep this site open in some format. i am computer illterate. i wish i could help with time and all but i understand you can keep it up either. so sad, we are losing everything we love.
January 13th, 2008 at 4:44 pmWe’ve got to keep this going folks…
January 16th, 2008 at 10:56 pmThis is a great forum and we can’t lose it.
We all need to stay on top of what’s happening in our home county and our surroundings.
Development is inevitable but it can be monitored and controlled. This sort of site is a great way to feed the watchdogs!!
