Pep Boys Closing Shop

Published November 28th, 2007

The Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting this evening that local auto parts store, Pep Boys, is closing up along with stores in Decatur and Stone Mountain. The three stores are deemed by the Philadelphia-based company as “low return” stores, joining a total of 31 stores nationwide that were forced to close today.

The move comes to a loss of revenue and a shift in refocusing the companies efforts toward automotive products and services. Considering the amount of auto parts stores in Douglas County, this is not entirely a big loss with the exception of another vacant building in the near future.

Auto parts stores……The departure of Douglas County’s only Pep Boys, is another proof of bad, misguided growth in Douglas County. First Sonny’s Barbecue, then Smokey Bone s and now Pep Boys!!!!!! How pathetic. What’s next, Best Buy? Kids-R-Us? Toys-R-Us? Circuit City? Douglas County cannot seem to keep anything. And with the recent shooting at Arbor Place Mall, the only thing the county can attract ‘new’ is a Pollo Loco. No Brandsmart!!! No Fry’s!!! No P.F. Changs!!! No BJs!!!! Even the Alpine Steakhouse is gone. And how about that SR 92 Corridor? Still dying!!! Die on Douglas County. Don’t let the population numbers fool you, it is the ‘right’ population that matters.
