Return from Hiatus
Last Thursday afternoon I walked away from the Losing Georgia Project under the duress of frustration and disappointment from a chaotic week, not knowing if I could endure continuing such an enormous task of project itself. It has been almost two years since my photography project began in the summer of June 2005, being supported financially and physical by none other than myself – it takes money to pay for the website’s server, open record documents, research materials and photography equipment.
Initially the project would last for one year resulting in a gallery-style art exhibit, but halfway through the project new development trends were appearing that yielded explanations. As I dove deeper into my work, I noticed that there was not one single place where information about how fast Douglas County was growing could be found. Thus this absence spawned LosingGeorgia.com in its current form – a webumentary/blog providing sources and deeper insights into issues - that has gradually become something more than I ever dreamed or could control.
Having limited resources and time has put much strain on myself, forcibly pushing for an end result that would warrant better awareness for residents. Losing Georgia was never to be a newspaper, magazine or media outlet, but rather a central information repository that would be beneficial to anyone facing similar problems like Douglas County.
After consulting with family and friends, and reading the comments over the weekend, I have decided to continue Losing Georgia for the time being. Furthermore I have decided to work longer on articles; as a result I will no longer pressure myself to make a posting everyday. When June arrives for the two year mark, I will consider my options to whether or not continue the project.
Losing Georgia has become a passion of mine that I do not want to let go or give up on.
NOTE: The website was updated late Saturday night, a few features broke in the process but have been mostly fixed, pages should also load faster. Comments are moderated so please do not repeatedly send in comments because they have not appeared – those who choose to will be banned.
