EDIT: Burger King / Citgo Demolished

Demolished Burger King on Fairburn Road

First I want to thank local resident Adam for e-mailing me this snippet of information about what's going on at Fairburn Road. Just in the recent days both Burger King (picture above) and Citgo gas station near Interstate 20 have been demolished, leaving no site of any structure. Adam goes on to say that at one time there were signs indicating both properties were now in the ownership of the local government. It is unknown as to who owns the property, County or City, but I would assume the City of Douglasville (which I will explain later).

The property where the fast food restaurant stood was owned by the Burger King Corporation on a piece of one acre. According to public records, the fair market value of this property is $612,040. The now vacant lot where the Citgo gas station was owned by Bagwell & Spears, Inc on a .7 acre lot. Fair market value of this property was $385,742.

Debris Remvoval Services out of Carrollton was at the Citgo cleaning up the remnants of the gas station along with removing the pumping stations. It is unknown when or if the underground tanks will be removed.

Boarded up Captain D's on Fairburn Road

Not far from Burger King and Citgo is the Captain D's where it is all boarded up with plywood. There were no signs present on the property as to why the facility had closed or if the property was acquired by the local government. Both Captain D's and Burger King were remodeled a few years ago. All three locations have not been updated on the County's property information website.

After visiting the Courthouse and City Hall today, the reason for the demolition is much more clearer: GA DOT is going to change the intersection at Fairburn Road and Interstate 20. Though a City of Douglasville sign is present on Fairburn Road the project is headed by GA DOT. This Interstate project is no affliated with the Highway 92 Project. More information about this project will be available soon.
