County updates website to include SPLOST information

The County goverment website has finally been updated to include information on SPLOST. This information has not been available on the website until lately after many inquiries by residents who are concerned about the status of SPLOST, including Losing Georgia. In the past the only SPLOST information available was a summary of the audit conducted to determine wrongdoings and misuse of funds.

Oddly enough some of the documents are riddled with errors which create problems for opening the PDF files. What documents can be opened are graphs, charts, cash receipts and 2006 projects. The SPLOST page also gives brief information about the upcoming SPLOST initiative, including the newly proposed jail which SPLOST will fully fund.

More on SPLOST fund breakdown after the jump

What is not on the page is a copy of the notice to qualified voters about the upcoming SPLOST vote which includes the official breakdown of funds without individual projects. The breakdown of funds listed on the webpage slightly differs from the County document attained by Losing Georgia. Below is the official breakdown according to the County's documentation.

The City of Douglasville website does not contain information above about SPLOST. Another important point to mention that was not stated on the SPLOST page is that all taxes collected will go to the new County jail fund first before being applied to other purposes.

Two SPLOST Informational Open Houses are open to the public on June 26th, 5 - 8 p.m. Courthouse Atrium and July 10th, 5-8 p.m. Deer Lick Park Gym. The county wide election on SPLOST is on July 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Thank you for informing the public about the Level 1 priority for the new county jail.

Also, I have asked that the Election Board post this information at each voting location. Due to the fact that they saw fit to place the jail at the very bottom of the list on the ballot.

This is misleading … of not even more.
